Co-Founders Hercule and George
Our History
Co-founder, Hercule David, is a Haitian American who served many years in Haiti as a pastor, school director, and community development leader in Haiti. After 22 years in the U.S., Hercule returned for a first return to Haiti in 2014: only to be shocked at the worsening poverty and suffering he witnessed. He was compelled during his visit to serve God by offering help and hope to families, churches and their communities. God inspired him to purchase a concrete block making machine to supply building materials. Pastor Tristan Hohler from GraceSpring encouraged Hercule to organize with George Wadsworth, who had been President of a mission to Haiti for 11 years, and had 23 years of non-profit management experience including World Relief and Co-founding Exodus World Service.
Hercule and George, as volunteers, have pioneered and managed the ministry together in mutual agreement with a commitment to constructing houses as God made resources available. A Haiti Board was established with responsible Christian leaders to oversee the work locally. Gracespring Church agreed to receipt and be responsible for contributions to the ministry. Ever since, we have been building one house at a time as God has supplied. In the last 11 years the ministry has completed 39 concrete block homes for families. The concrete block homes have three rooms totalling about 450 square feet with a metal roof and a concrete block out house. In secondary assistance, HSH also replaced 40 roofs damaged by 145 mph Category 5 Hurricane Matthew in 2016. On 8/14/2021, all the Homes for South Haiti constructed homes withstood a 7.2 An earthquake in southwest Haiti. We were blessed that none of our homes collapsed and that none of our families were injured. We have continued to improve our construction quality to safeguard against the risk of future disasters. Homes for South Haiti usually provides food relief a couple of times per year for the hungry through our regional network of a dozen churches. HSH has funded a well that was drilled in a community near Les Cayes that was miles from a community well. Recently Homes for South Haiti is helping a remote community, Bois Gerard, to construct a first ever road to the village and is preparing to build their first elementary school.
